A Quilty Kind of Girl

A totally selfish post, all about me.

Hello there!
My name is Bradie (AKA A Quilty Kind of Girl) and today’s post is a little about me. I spend a lot of time talking about quilting, and fabrics, and gadgets, so I thought I would switch it up a little. I am a busy, busy Mom to eight beautiful children, and have just found out that number nine is on the way. (and before you ask, YES this will be the last one. For sure. like permanent for sure.) We have five daughters and three sons, the oldest of which is 15, the youngest is 14 months. My hubby, and Daddy to all eight babes is Matt (AKA The Manquilter). He spends his days dancing and long arming with his APQS Millennium, writing quilting articles for magazines like Quilter’s Home and Quiltposium, and designing websites. We both work from home, because honestly, how could we justify putting all these beauties in daycare?

The Matt and Bradie Bunch

Me, the Big Handsome Man and our Babes

(What a picture huh? One has her eyes closed, and what is the one in the middle doing?! Where are Baby’s socks? and is that Justin Bieber? )So I spend my days chasing around shorties, and my evenings blogging and designing quilts and anything else that I can create with a sewing machine. At any given time I have at least 3 projects in my head, and at least another 3 projects half assembled.

Matt and I belong to 2 quilt guilds, one in our city, and the other is in a small town 10 minutes away. On the second Thursday of each month, I stand at the front of a hall and play President for the smaller guild that we belong too. Sometimes I wonder I why they let stand up there and yap for hours on end! :) It has been an amazing opportunity, and although my time is nearly over I have enjoyed every moment of it.

Well I can’t think of much else to tell you. So I’ll wrap it up with this exciting news. I was getting my eyes tested today ( yay! new glasses tomorrow!!! :D ) and I stopped in the drug store real quick. and. there. it was….

Oh. Look. A magazine.

Ok. you say… a magazine? So what?

June 2010 Moda Bake Shop Ad

Look! All my Moda Bake Shop Designer friends!

Bradie in Moda Bake Shop ad

Me plus Moda sittin' in a tree...

For this, I really must thank Moda Lissa. She is the one who stuck my picture in there with all those wonderful designers. I truly look forward to the day when I actually get to meet Lissa, I’ve heard she is just the sweetest ever.

I hope you enjoyed getting to know me a little bit better, if you managed to stay awake through this whole “mememe fest” that is. :) I had planned to tell you about the wonderful award a bloggy friend gave me but I’ve simply run right out of steam, so I will save that for the weekend. Tomorrow, I will answer all your MISTY FUSE questions, so keep on leaving them and I’ll pile them all up and spit out all my answers in one big breath. If you are looking for the Misty Fuse Giveaway <—– then just click away on those colorful words.

Quilty Hugs to all y'all (that's a little Rachel tribute right there)

  1. Hi Bradie!

First of all I admire your courage to do all this! I was planning to start quilting and I actually made my first block by hand. The thing is I don’t have a place or space to do it. So I wait a while until I get that sorted out.
    You have a beautiful family!!
Wish you all health and to you especially so you keep doing all those nice things and sending us all your news.

    Love, Christina

  4. Wow, congrats on number nine! That is so awesome!!! Your children are so adorable. I’m fairly new to quilting, and love reading blogs. Had no idea “The Manquilter” is your hubby. Cool! My husband wouldn’t know what to do with a long arm, let alone a regular sewing machine, but he does stop along his travels to pick me up some fabric!

    • That is very sweet that hubby shops for fabric for you. Yes, we’re a regular quilty kind of family! Thanks Teresa.

  7. Congrats are in order all the way around. First for your loving and supporting husband. Second for raising a beautiful family. Third for number nine. Each one is special in their own way and hold that spot in your heart. Forth for seeing your picture in print and knowing that your hard work as paid off.

Keep on doing what you do best and that is being you! Hugs!!!

  15. Hi Bradie, I wanted to tell you that I’ve been following you and Matt on Fb for a while and I get so much inspiration from both of you. You have a beautiful family and are doing a fantastic job raising them from what I read and see. I feel like I know you a little bit because Matt was born in Taber where I live and I kindof knew his Mom Florence. Anyway congrats on the new arrival! You had us guessing on April 1st that’s a very courageous way to make the announcement!! I am waiting for my magazine to arrive in the mail, I’ve been reading about your picture in different places!!

  17. Wow Bradie! You’re truly amazing! I have five kids, the oldes 24 and the youngest 4…it’s easier when you spread them out like that ;) I also have myself buried in pets: 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 horse, 1 pony, 1 macaw, 2 desert tortoises, 1 rooster, and 20 hens. I am pretty wiped out by the end of the day and even though I WANT to do some sewing I just don’t force myself…BAD…because I have some time sensitive projects to complete. After reading your blog I am inspired to get ‘er done!! I enjoyed reading about you. Congratulations on the newest member of your family! You have a great gang there!!
